Song of Songs 7:10 KJV
"I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me."
The need to be needed has always been a stumbling block for me…
But Holy Spirit helped me realize something this morning…
It is much better to be desired than to be needed…
It took a while to realize why…
I know when I want something I pursue it far more passionately than when I simply know I need it…
Unless, of course, the situation becomes desperate…
And it’s been a very long time since I was ever starving…
Still, I can remember what that was like, too…
A tiny little child…
Locked in a room, hungry…
With no hope for sustenance…
With nothing to curb the ache in her tiny little belly but the water she could cup in her tiny little hands as she drank from the bathroom sink…
Funny thing is…
I used to think that memory was so vile, so terrible…
Today I understand that life can get FAR worse than that for a child…
Yet, I understand my lack of awareness is quite forgivable in His sight…
I still carry that feeling with me in my soul, nonetheless…
Starvation is a relentless state that drives the flesh to madness…
But food isn’t a necessity…
Not for a long time anyway…
Water…
That’s a different story…
Air…
That, too…
Not having that will KILL you…
Truth is, most people pursue what FEELS good far more enthusiastically than what actually IS good for them…
Unless they are some superhuman health nut…
Most people I know struggle with that anyway…
And I KNOW that I do…
Can’t argue with testimony…
So, why do I care so much about this line of reasoning?
Because it helps me appreciate the way God’s love works even more than I already do…
He doesn’t NEED us…
He WANTS us….
His desire is for us…
Just like the scripture you just read…
He can do whatever He wants to do with or without us…
This means if we are continually trying to please Him we will miss the whole point…
He wants us to LOVE Him back…
Obedience is surely His primary love language…
But He also loves words of affirmation…
Also known as praise and worship…
He wants quality time with us…
Also known as prayer and meditation…
He loves gifts…
Eagerly and cheerfully given gifts…
Not the ones we secretly wish we didn’t have to…
If that’s how we feel we might as well stop and ask him to change our heart posture…
And physical touch…
Don’t you think he sees your hands lifted up to heaven?
Do you ever feel the wind pick up when you go out for a prayer walk?
That’s Him…
Touching you…
When the sun seems to get a little hotter and shine a little brighter…
That’s His touch…
The trees waving as you pass by…
The birds flying alongside you…
Don’t believe me…
I dare you to try it…
Ask Him to touch you…
See what happens…
You don’t need to try so hard…
But He loves to prove His love to you…
